Jordan,

Thank you for your reply. I can understand your perspective and agree with you. Safe storage, especially with young children, must be balanced with easy access. As your website address and e-mail point out, biometrics can be a viable option for just that--especially when combined with being bolted in near the bed. Under the stress of an attack, however, you'll have to contend with issues even with biometrics. This is why drilling on getting to your gun is crucial with whatever system you're using as well as contingencies in the event that equipment fails.

Good luck to you,

Manny Cabrera

Part of the equation should also be safe keeping and easy access. Fingerprint safes or anything with a biometric option will keep you safe and decrease the time it takes to access your gun if you're being attacked.

Thank you for this article. I share your concern about advertisers pushing out young girls into "premature adulthood". Parents and others in a position to guide our children have an uphill battle to counter the ads our kids see on TV.

Thank you for posting this article. It continues the long discussion over insecurity in adolescent girls and "how far is too far" in terms of making girls, or people in general, feel good about themselves. I work at a summer camp for girls and we see many girls come through there who are dealing with insecurities. And the girls seem to start struggling with these issues at a younger and younger age. I know part of taking those rose-colored glasses off are just part of growing up and being exposed to different things but the marketing bastards out there are not triggering the bullets at girls who aren't even in middle school yet. I think exercise and healthy living is very important no matter the age but a young girl's main focus shouldn't be "is my butt too big?" or "how can I make my boobs looks fuller" - I wish adults didn't even think like that but I'd rather focus my attention on trying to help kids from the ground up as opposed to trying to climb the tall trees already so deeply planted in angst. Sex not only sells, but it drowns out a lot of other crucial things in life. People are pretty much forced from the womb dealing with insecurity it seems and that's why the sex issue is so strong. Advertisers just play into this disease and gain profit from it as they deal with, or ignore, their own demons. Basically, I am against these campaigns and wish the people who had some control over it, would monitor it a bit. You can't change the market but you can change the environment in which your daughter's brain lives. Now parents can always save the day and keep their kids from being influenced by ads such as the Sketchers ad, but they can at lease live out what they want to instill. But parents deal with insecurity almost as much as young girls. It's a cycle. And ads like these aren't making it any better.

You're right. Too many people mistake patience for "waiting around." Often, as is the case with anything worth doing, there should be quite a lot of activity going on in order to reach the goal. Patience comes into play when developing the calm it takes to understand that the reward or goal will be achieved at some point in the future and that the work we're doing now is getting us closer to that.

The trouble is that often when people think about patience they think of "taking time". So they take a lot of time and spend it on waiting instead of taking care of something else, and then what they say? "Oh boy, how long is it going to take?" Well, it will take some time but it's our choice how we will spend that time and by that - how much time we'll spend on waiting and murmuring ;)
